Mamamia is Australia's largest independent women's media company, with a decade-long reputation for being on the pulse of what women are talking about. If the Mamamia brand were a person, we'd be the one you can't stop talking to - we're candid, warm, honest, and inclusive, and every day we're telling new stories you can't turn away from.

The Senior News & Features Writer will pitch and write content for our news and real life verticals and have a passion for delivering newsworthy reporting that is fast, informative, and factual.

About the role

The Senior News & Features writer will be responsible for helping set the tone of Mamamia's news and current affairs coverage, including covering breaking political and nationally and internationally significant news stories. This person will also pitch and craft strong content (opinions, real life interviews, and features) that drives national conversations that have gone under-reported. You will have a natural ability to write eye-catching headlines along with sourcing images, videos, and podcast content that will help maximise content shareability. You will also edit the website on a weekend day, running the site autonomously including assigning writers, publishing content, and curating the homepage.

  • Possess strong research skills and extensive interview experience
  • News obsessed and take great interest in current affairs, particularly women's issues.
  • Proven track record in finding, chasing, and securing case studies
  • Feature writing experience is a great advantage but not essential
  • Editing experience is a bonus but not required
  • Ability to build relationships internally and externally
  • Technically proficient using CMS systems
  • Thrive in a fast-paced and autonomous environment

About us

We're fast-paced and innovative, and democratic when it comes to strategies and ideas.

We're small enough that you can create real and tangible change, and have your voice heard, and large enough that we can support your ideas with experienced, industry-leading teams, and deliver them to an audience of millions of women every month.

The core purpose of Mamamia is to make the world a better place for women and girls, and we live this philosophy in the content we create, and with the work we do with our charity partner, Room to Read. The independence and empowerment of women starts with universal literacy, and since 2017, Mamamia has supported Room to Read's Girls' Education Program, which breaks cycles of illiteracy in Asia and Africa. We've funded the education of tens of thousands of girls, and Mamamia staff have visited the schools where we've made an impact.

As well as being a meaningful and exciting place to work, Mamamia offers:
