Mamamia, Australia's premier women's media network is looking for a passionate, creative Night Editor with a love of all things entertainment, news and pop culture, to autonomously drive the editorial team during the evening. This role can be done remotely from any state. You will be responsible for directing the team during this period, assigning stories to writers, editing and publishing high quality stories, as well as writing for the site. 

About you

You are reactive, thrive under pressure, and are able to prioritise what stories are right for Mamamia. You are an experienced and senior journalist looking to take on a leadership role and create smart, original and stand-out content. You have a thorough understanding of Australian TV and celebrity culture, as well as news. You also know how to find the hook in every good story, writing shareable headlines and engaging our audience on multiple platforms.

We're looking for an experienced journalist with a trained eye for quality and experience across a range of media, particularly digital. You'll be very comfortable working autonomously directing a team every evening, and being creative under pressure. This role can be remote for the right candidate.

You'll understand how to prioritise articles according to what's right for the Mamamia audience and be vigilant in achieving the perfect balance of stories on the homepage.

This role involves working Sunday - Thursday from 2pm-10pm and can be done remotely from any state.

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a journalist or editor (preferably in the digital environment)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Media or Communications
  • Experience managing and leading high performing teams
  • Create smart, original and stand-out content with original, shareable story ideas that takes the news to a different level for our readers
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to quickly and concisely write well researched engaging stories
  • Can provide team members with quality and specific feedback
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
